Bears Take On No. 4 Duke In First Round
The fifth-seeded California field hockey team is set for its second ACC Championship and will face fourth-seeded Duke in the first round Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. PT at Trager Stadium in Louisville. Every match of the tournament will be broadcast on ACC Network.
The Golden Bears (8-7, 3-5 ACC) are coming off a 3-1 win against cross-Bay rival Stanford in their regular-season finale. Against the Cardinal,
Holly Pears scored a goal in the second period to tie the game before
Liz Klompmaker scored twice in the fourth period to put Cal up for good.
Cal has yet to earn a win against Duke in its 10 meetings. The two teams last played on Sept. 21 when the Blue Devils scored twice in the first half to come away with a 2-0 win at Katz Stadium. In the game, the Bears successfully defended seven penalty corners but were only able to draw two themselves.
This marks the Bears' second appearance in the ACC Tournament. In last year's tournament, Cal fell to North Carolina 5-0. This season marked the Bears' second in the ACC and their best campaign in the conference after winning three conference games compared to just one a season ago.
