Alex Mack Officially Inducted Into College Football HOF

Former Cal Center Enters Hall During Tuesday Night’s 67th Annual NFF Awards Dinner

LAS VEGAS - California football alum Alex Mack became the 17th former player and 21st member of the program overall to be officially enshrined into the College Football Hall of Fame to represent Cal when he was inducted as a member of the Class of 2025 on Tuesday during the 67th Annual NFF Awards Dinner Presented by Las Vegas at the Bellagio Hotel & Casino. Mack's accomplishments will be forever immortalized at the Chick-fil-A College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta.

"I loved playing football, it's an incredible game," Mack said at a press conference on Tuesday prior to the dinner. "I did it because it was fun and to get this award is beyond anything I ever dreamed of. I'm filled with gratitude for all of the teammates, coaches, family and friends' support I had to be here. This was not done alone. I think everyone would nod their head in agreement. None of us got here without the help of a lot of people, and I'm filled with gratitude."

Mack was selected the first time his name was on the Hall's ballot and he is also the fifth winner of the NFF's prestigious Campbell Trophy, also commonly known as the "Academic Heisman," to become a member of the Hall. Mack was the winner of the Campbell Trophy, then known as the Draddy Trophy, in 2008.

"It's all going to come full circle tonight when I see the other Campbell Trophy finalists there," Mack said at the press conference. "I remember having a deep sense of imposter syndrome and feeling unworthy of the award because of the caliber of people who were on the dais with me. To win it that night was incredible, and I feel the same way about all of the gentlemen I'm here with now. I'm blown away."

Tuesday's dinner was the culmination of a series of events related to Mack's College Football Hall of Fame selection beginning with the announcement of the Hall's Class of 2025 in January and an on-campus salute at the Bears' homecoming game against Duke on Oct. 4. Mack was also inducted into the Cal Athletics Hall of Fame in 2025 and honored during a home game against North Carolina on Oct. 17.

Mack helped Cal win four bowl games (2005 Las Vegas Bowl, 2006 Holiday Bowl, 2007 Armed Forces Bowl, 2008 Emerald Bowl) and post a 34-17 overall record during his collegiate career with the Bears, who were ranked in the top 25 nationally at one point during each of the four campaigns in which he saw action. His 2006 squad tied a single-season school record with 10 wins, becoming Cal's first Pac-10 co-champions since 1975 and ranking No. 14 in the final AP Top 25. His 2007 team reached as high as No. 2 in the national rankings.

Mack capped off his collegiate career as a 2008 senior when he was also a team captain, the Pac-10's Football Scholar-Athlete of the Year, earned his second consecutive All-American (Rivals) nod and Morris Trophy selection as the Pac-10's top offensive lineman, collected his third straight first-team All-Pac-10 accolade, and tallied his fourth Pac-10 All-Academic selection in a row.

Following his collegiate career, Mack was selected in the first round (No. 21 overall) of the 2009 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns and played 13 seasons in the league with Cleveland (2009-15), Atlanta (2016-20) and San Francisco (2021). He was a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame's 2010's NFL All-Decade Team, a seven-time Pro Bowler and a three-time second-team All-Pro.
