Cal Set For Battle Of The Bay
Bears Play At Stanford In Annual Rivalry Game
The California women's basketball team (8-3) will play in the annual Battle of the Bay when it visits Stanford (8-2) at Maples Pavilion on Sunday at 1 p.m. PT.
This is the longest running series against any opponent for Cal, with this being the 105th all-time matchup between the programs. Stanford owns an 81-23 series advantage, but Cal has won the last two contests. One of the two wins last season was an 83-63 victory at Haas Pavilion, which marked the third-largest margin of victory for Cal in the series.
A win would mark Cal's longest winning streak against Stanford since winning eight straight between the 1980-81 and 1985-86 seasons.
Stanford is coming off just a three-point loss to No. 19 Tennessee on Dec. 3. The Cardinal is led by second-year head coach Kate Paye, who is a former teammate of Cal head coach
Charmin Smith at Stanford. The Cardinal features an impressive freshman class that includes Lara Somfai, who was named the ACC Rookie of the Week on Nov. 10, and veteran Nunu Agara, who earned ACC Player of the Week honors on Nov. 24 and is averaging 15.8 points and 8.8 rebounds per game.
Sunday's game will be streamed on ACCNX with Kevin Danna and Mary Murphy on the call.
