LAST ACTION
Cal pinned up its fifth straight win by fending off Pacific for a 67-61 victory, keeping the Golden Bears perfect at Haas Pavilion this season. Four Bears hit double digits while the defense made the stops it needed to improve Cal to 8-1 overall.
Cal was shooting well through most of the first half, starting hot before a late cold spell allowed Pacific to get the margin down to single digits. The Bears were up 36-27 at halftime after shooting 56 percent with five 3-pointers landed in those first 20 minutes. The Tigers heated up late and would wrap the half shooting 33.3 percent overall while leading on the boards by a powerful 24-10 mark.
Cal improved its rebounding efforts in the second half and held off the Tigers as they pushed to narrow the gap. It was a two-point game in the final minute of play, but Cal got the stops it needed and finished things off from the free-throw line to secure the 67-61 win. Cal wrapped the game shooting 46 percent overall with eight 3-pointers made to outpace Pacific's 37.1 percent overall and seven threes made, although the Tigers did win the battle of the boards 42-31.
Justin Pippen led all scorers on the day with 16 points, with Dai Dai Ames adding 15, John Camden hitting 13 and Chris Bell with 11 for Cal. Pacific was led by Isaac Jack's double-double on 15 points and 16 rebounds, with TJ Wainwright adding 13 points for the Tigers.
- Justin Pippen (15 points) and Dai Dai Ames (14) both scored in double digits for the eighth time this season.
- John Camden (13 points) and Chris Bell (11) both scored in double figures for the seventh time this season.
- Cal is now 5-0 when holding teams to under 70 points.
- This is the seventh time this season that Cal has had four players score in double figures.
Cal's 8-1 overall record is its best since 2014, when the Bears opened up 10-1.

BEATING THE BRUINS
Cal stepped onto a big stage and scored a big win, beating No. 18 UCLA 80-72 at Chase Center in the finale of the Empire Classic on November 25.
The lead changed hands six times in the first half as the teams were largely in stride on the scoring front, with Cal shooting 41.9 percent overall to UCLA's 41.2 percent. Thanks to a 25-15 rebounding advantage, the Bruins had punched up nine second-chance points while also going 9-of-13 from the free-throw line to help lead things 41-36 at halftime.
UCLA took a six-point lead early in the second half before the Bears unleashed a 13-2 rally that took them into the lead to stay. The Bruins got within four in the final five minutes, only to see Cal's Dai Dai Ames tally nine clutch points in that last stretch to help anchor the Bears' win. Cal finished out the game shooting 44.8 percent, thanks in part to a 6-of-11 effort from 3-point range in the second half. UCLA finished at 40.6 percent overall and was ahead on the boards 41-35, although Cal outrebounded the Bruins 20-16 in those final 20 minutes.
The Bears were led in scoring by Chris Bell's 22 points on 5-of-7 shooting from beyond the arc. Ames added 14 points -- all in the second half -- while Justin Pippen scored 13 and Rytis Petraitis tallied 12 along with a team-high seven rebounds. UCLA received 19 points from Trent Perry and 17 from Eric Dailey Jr.
