MARKHAM, Ont. – After six rotations at the Markham Pan-Am Center, California men's gymnastics Aidan Li and Matteo Bardana have found themselves in good shape against many of Canada's top gymnasts, with each hoping to earn a coveted spot on the national team following the conclusion of this weekend's Elite Canada competition. The meet utilizes the FIG (International Gymnastics Federation) scoring system, which slightly differs from the NCAA's.

Reigning national champion Aidan Li once again drew notice on the Canadian stage with a score of 13.650 on pommel horse, good for first place overall with the competition's most difficult routine. He will look to follow a similar trajectory as he did at the 2024 Canadian Championships and post an even better score in two days' time to clinch victory.

Bardana posted the second-best all-around score in the Senior Next Gen age category and third-best overall at 73.116. His floor score of 13.600 and high bar score of 11.900 led his age category, with the former also leading the entire field of competition; he also posted category top-three scores on parallel bars (12.666) and rings (12.150). Bardana rounded out his night with a 13.000 on vault and a 9.800 on pommel horse, appearing on each for the first time this season.
