Rose Sets Program Record On Day Three of NCAA Championships

Cal Earns Top 5 Finishes In 6 Events

FEDERAL WAY, Wa. - The No. 3 California men's swimming & diving team placed among the top five in seven events on the third day of the NCAA Championships at Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatics Center.
 
Dare Rose opened the first event of the evening with a fourth-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly after clocking a 43.52, lowering his school record by 0.22 seconds that he set earlier this morning in the prelims. Rose is the only Bear in program history to swim under the 40.00-second mark in the event.
 
In the next event, Lucas Henveaux placed third in the 400-yard individual medley with a personal best of 3:36.22, the fourth-fastest time in program history.
 
Gabriel Jett and Jack Alexy landed in the top five of the 200-yard freestyle. Jett set a personal best after clocking a 1:30.08, the second-fastest time in program history, to finish third. Alexy took fifth in the event with a time of 1:30.28.
 
 In the 100-yard breaststroke, Yamato Okadome tallied his second All-American honor of his first NCAA Championships appearance after placing fifth in a time of 50.69.
 
Mewen Tomac and Destin Lasco went fourth and fifth in the 100-yard backstroke. Tomac set a personal-best time of 43.94, marking the third-fastest time in program history. Lasco followed behind with a time of 43.94.
 
The Bears ended the night with the quartet of Tomac, Okadome, Rose and Lasco taking fourth in the 400-yard medley relay in a time of 2:59.12, the second-fastest mark in program history.
 
Through 14 events, Texas sits on top of the standings with 368 points. Cal follows in second with 312.5 points, while Indiana (304), Florida (233) and Georgia (177.5) round out the top five.
 
The NCAA Championships head to the fourth and final day, beginning with the prelims of the 200-yard backstroke, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard breaststroke, 200-yard butterfly and platform diving, starting at 10 a.m. PT.
