Cal Hosts Trio As ACC Slate Begins
The California women's tennis team hosts three matches in three days and plays its ACC opener this week at the Hellman Tennis Complex, where Pepperdine, Boston College and Syracuse converge in the Golden Bears' longest homestand of the season. Cal (2-4), ranked 72nd, takes on the 20th-ranked Waves for the second time this season Thursday, starts conference play against the Eagles on Friday and faces the No. 56 Orange on Sunday.

Cal got three big wins from freshmen
in a 6-1 rout of 46th-ranked UC Santa Barbara on a windy Saturday afternoon at the Hellman Tennis Complex. First-year Bear
Greta Greco Lucchina clinched the victory, besting Tyra Richardson 6-4, 6-3 at court-three singles to give Cal a 4-1 lead and the official win.
Lan Mi and
Berta Passola Folch tacked on two more wins to seal the victory.

Scouting Cal
- All-American Katja Wiersholm has a singles record of 8-5
- Wiersholm was one of four Bears – including Mao Mushika, Lan Mi and Jessica Alsola – who competed in the NCAA individual championships at Baylor in the fall
- Wiersholm advanced to the NCAA singles round of 16 to earn All-America singles honors in Waco, Texas
- Alsola, who paired with Mushika at NCAA doubles in Waco, has a 3-2 doubles record with Mushika and is 8-7 in singles
- Mushika, a sophomore who reached the second round of NCAA singles, has an 11-8 singles mark
- Mushika was the first Bear to earn ACC honors when she was named the ACC Player of the Week on Jan. 14 after posting records of 3-0 in singles and 3-0 in doubles in the Cal Winter Invitational
- Mi, a senior who also advanced to the NCAA singles second round, has a 13-6 singles record
- One of Mi's wins – a 6-1, 6-4 triumph over Dania Deafi – clinched Cal's win over Grand Canyon in the opening match of the ITA Kickoff Weekend on Jan. 24 in Berkeley
- Berta Passola Folch, a junior, is 12-7 in singles
- Sophomore Tiziana-Marie Schomburg is 10-5 in singles
- Freshman Greta Greco Lucchina, who joined the Bears in early January, is 8-1 in singles
- Two freshmen made their dual-match debuts recently in Naomi Xu, who is 7-6 in singles, and Sophie Hernandez, who is 10-5 in singles after a win in her first dual match against UCSB
- Amanda Augustus – a Cal Athletics Hall of Famer, two-time NCAA doubles champion, 2021 Pac-12 Coach of the Year and five-time ITA Northwest Region Coach of the Year – is in her 18th year as head coach at her alma mater
Scouting Pepperdine
- In their last two matches, the Waves lost at No. 30 UCLA 5-2 on Feb. 26 and beat No. USC 4-2 last Saturday
- Three Waves are ranked in singles in No. 13 Savannah Broadus, No. 59 Anatasiia Grechkina and No. 102 Vivian Yang
- Duru Soke was named the WCC Singles Player of the Week after clinching Pepperdine's 16th straight win over the Trojans
- The doubles team of Broadus and Yang is ranked seventh, and the duo of Grechkina and Alexia Harmon is ranked 81st
- Tassilo Schmid is in his first season as Pepperdine's interim head coach
Scouting Boston College
- The Eagles play at San Jose State on Wednesday
- Boston College split its previous two matches, losing 4-1 at Florida State last Friday and beating Miami 4-2 on Sunday
- Senior Muskan Mahajan is a Bay Area product from San Ramon
- Nigel Bentley is in his 26th year as head coach of BC
Scouting Syracuse
- The Orange lost to Miami 4-3 last Friday and beat Florida State 4-3 on Sunday
- Syracuse plays at No. 32 Stanford on Friday
- Miyuka Kimoto is ranked 90th in singles
- In doubles, Kimoto and Nelly Knezkova are ranked 55th
- Younes Limam is in his 12th year as head coach of Syracuse
