KEY THINGS TO KNOW
ALL-AMERICAN CANDIDATE JARREN ADVINCULA NOW ACC HITS LEADER - 2B
Jarren Advincula has put together an All-American caliber season in 2025 and now leads the ACC with 68 hits that are just five off the national lead and ranked tied for seventh nationally. Advincula is also third in the ACC with his .393 batting average and among the top 10 in the ACC in six offensive categories and the national leaders in seven. Advincula is hitting 68 points higher than the .325 he posted during his first-team All-Pac-12 season as a 2024 freshman and already surpassed his collegiate rookie totals in doubles (15), home runs (6) and stolen bases (9) while he is closing in on several others.
Â
TOUGH STRETCH - Cal was sitting at a season-high-tying four games over .500 (16-12) overall just over three weeks ago after scoring twice in the top of the ninth inning for a 6-5 comeback win at Sacramento State on April 1. But Cal is 2-10 overall since then and has dropped 10 straight ACC contests since a 14-10 win at Louisville on March 29 improved their conference record to 6-5.
Â
CLOSE CONTESTS - Cal has played lots of competitive and close contests in 2025 with 12 games decided by two runs or less, most recently a 7-6 loss to NC State on April 18. Cal is 3-9 in those contests.
Â
FINAL ACC ROAD SERIES - Cal's three-game ACC series at Notre Dame from April 25-27 will be its final road conference series.
Â
HOME DOWN THE STRETCH - After the current road series at Notre Dame, Cal will play seven of its final nine home games and its final two ACC series (No. 4 Florida State, Boston College) at Stu Gordon Stadium.Â
Â
SIX TOP 25 ACC SERIES - Six of Cal's 10 ACC series in its first season in the league are against teams who were ranked in the top 25 of at least one national poll at the time of the series or are currently ranked. The Bears played five straight series against ranked teams to start their ACC slate (No. 14 Virginia, at No. 14 Stanford, at No. 18 Louisville, No. 6 Clemson, at No. 18 Georgia Tech) with No. 4 Florida State remaining on the schedule (May 9-11). For good measure, NC State just moved into D1Baseball's Top 25 poll on April 22 after a three-game sweep of the Bears April 17-19 in Berkeley.
Â
UP THE MIDDLE STARTING COMBO - 2B
Jarren Advincula (1 start at DH) and SS
PJ Moutzouridis have started all 40 games in 2025. Since their 2024 arrivals, Moutzouridis has started all 95 games at shortstop and Advincula has started 94 of 95 possible games (93 2B, 1 DH).
Â
MIDWEEK SUCCESS - Cal is 7-1 in midweek games in 2025. The Bears suffered their first midweek loss to Saint Mary's in their most recent midweek game on April 21.           Â
           Â
ON THIS DATE IN CAL BASEBALL - Cal wrapped up a memorable three-game Pac-12 series sweep of then No. 5 Oregon State with a 4-3 victory at Stu Gordon Stadium.
Seth Gwynn homered and drove in three while the Bears scored twice in bottom of the seventh after trailing, 3-2.Â
Â
BIG LEAGUERS - Cal has six former players currently on MLB rosters in OF/1B Mark Canha (Royals), RHP Lucas Erceg (Royals), C Korey Lee (White Sox), MGR Bob Melvin (San Francisco Giants), INF Marcus Semien (Rangers) and OF Andrew Vaughn (White Sox). Lee is currently on the White Sox 10-day injured list.
