KEY THINGS TO KNOW
4 IN A ROW FOR LAST TIME - Cal will play its fourth game in as many days for the final time during the 2025 regular season on Monday night when it hosts Pacific in a nonconference affair. The Bears were swept in a three-game ACC series by Clemson in the first three contests of the home stand. It marked the first time in just shy of a calendar year the Bears were swept in a three-game set; Arizona took all three games of a Pac-12 series in Berkeley on April 5-7, 2024.
Â
BALLPARKS MATTER - Cal's numbers have been significantly different this season whether they are playing at home or on the road. Cal's pitching staff has taken advantage of Stu Gordon Stadium with a 4.29 ERA (6.33 road), while hitters have capitalized on more friendly offensive ballparks with a .338 batting average on the road (.250 at home). Â
Â
5 TOP 25 ACC SERIES IN A ROW - Cal's last four ACC series have come against teams in the top 25 of at least one national college baseball poll at the time of the series. The Bears started the stretch with No. 14 Virginia at home, then visited No. 14 Stanford and No. 18 Louisville before returning home to host No. 6 Clemson. A three-game set at No. 18 Georgia Tech is next on the docket (April 11-13), while No. 9 Florida State (May 9-11) also remains.Â
Â
LOTS OF HITS - Cal ranks tied fourth in the ACC and tied for 35th nationally in doubles (69), fourth in the ACC and tied for 52nd nationally in triples (9), fifth in the ACC and tied for 37th nationally in home runs (45), and fifth in the ACC and 51st nationally in hits (318). All-American candidate
Jarren Advincula has been a big reason why, as he ranks second in the ACC and tied for 18th nationally with 52 hits.
Â
ADVINCULA RESTARTS STREAKS - Jarren Advincula had both his hitting streak (15) and run of reaching base safely (24) end Saturday when he was 0-for-3 against Clemson but restarted both streaks on Sunday by going 1-for-4 with a walk. Advincula's 15- and 24-game streaks were season highs and just shy of his career highs of 19 and 27 games he set in 2024.
Â
STARTING TRIO - Cal has three players who have started all 31 games in 2025 in 2B
Jarren Advincula (1 start at DH), SS
PJ Moutzouridis and CF
Seth Gwynn.
Â
ON THIS DATE IN CAL BASEBALL - On April 6, 2018, the Bears played 20 innings of baseball against Utah in Berkeley, including a game that had started two days earlier and a doubleheader, winning two of three (7-6, 10-12, 5-1).
Â
TYSON ROSS IN THE HOUSE - Former Cal and MLB pitcher Tyson Ross was at the Stu on Sunday when Cal recognized his Loyal To The Soil foundation. Ross spent an inning as a guest on the ACCNX/ESPN+ broadcast with announcers Roxy Bernstein and Jim Darby.
Â
BIG LEAGUERS - Cal has six former players currently on MLB rosters in OF/1B Mark Canha (Royals), RHP Lucas Erceg (Royals), C Korey Lee (White Sox), MGR Bob Melvin (San Francisco Giants), INF Marcus Semien (Rangers) and OF Andrew Vaughn (White Sox).
Â
MIKE NEU AT PACIFIC - Cal head coach
Mike Neu spent two seasons as the Pacific skipper (2016-17) in his first two campaigns as a head coach at a four-year school before taking over the reins of the Golden Bears in 2018. Neu was the head coach at Diablo Valley College for three seasons (2009-11) and pitching coach at Cal (2012-15) for four campaigns prior to Pacific.
