Cal Signs Naya Ojukwu For 2025-26 Season
Former Morgan State Standout Joins Bears
BERKELEY – The California women's basketball team has added sophomore transfer Naya Ojukwu to its roster for the 2025-26 season, Cal head coach
Charmin Smith announced Tuesday.
Ojukwu, a 6-foot-1 forward from Meridian, Idaho, is transferring to Cal from Morgan State.
"Naya brings a dynamic skillset that allows her to play and defend multiple positions," Smith said. "She gives us elite athleticism and can score from all three levels of the court. We're going to be able to use her in a variety of ways and she gives us a versatile option on the defensive end."
As a redshirt freshman in 2024-25 at Morgan State, Ojukwu appeared in 15 games with 13 starts and led the team with averages of 17.1 points and 9.0 rebounds in 31.8 minutes per game on her way to being named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Newcomer of the Year and selected to the All-MEAC Second Team. She posted seven double-doubles and scored 20-plus points in five contests, including a career-high 29 points against Howard. Ojukwu finished the regular season ranked second in MEAC games in scoring, fourth in rebounding, fifth in field goal percentage (48.9%) and fifth in blocks (21). She was also named to the BOXTOROW Division I HBCU Women's All-American Second Team at the conclusion of the season.
Prior to Morgan State, Ojukwu spent the 2023-24 season at Gonzaga where she received a medical hardship waiver from the NCAA after appearing in nine games and averaging 1.2 points and 1.0 rebounds in 6.2 minutes per game. She spent the 2022-23 season at Utah and played in four games with averages of 5.3 minutes, 3.3 points and 2.3 rebounds per contest before receiving a hardship waiver from the NCAA.
"I am so excited to join the Cal family," Ojukwi said. "From the moment I connected with Coach Charmin and the staff, it felt like home. The culture at Cal was truly unbeatable and I'm excited to be a part of something special. I'm coming to compete, to grow and to leave a mark on this program. Let's get to work."
Ojukwu was the 2020-21 Idaho Gatorade Player of the Year and MaxPreps Idaho Player of the Year at Mountain View High School in Meridian, Idaho. She earned 2021 State Tournament MVP honors and was a three-time Class 5A All-State honoree. Ojukwu led her team to two-straight Idaho Class 5A State Titles and averaged 24.2 points and 10 rebounds per game as a junior.
