Pitching Coach Brings 10 Years Of Experience To Program

BERKELEY – California softball head coach Chelsea Spencer announced Monday the addition of assistant coach Shelby Miller to the coaching staff. Miller will serve as the program's pitching coach alongside assistant coach Jen Deering.

Miller has spent the last four seasons as an assistant coach at Fresno State, aiding the Bulldogs to a 149-108 record during that span. Over the past two seasons, she has been responsible for back-to-back Mountain West Pitcher of the Year honorees.

"Shelby Miller is a game-changer when it comes to pitching analytics and technology," Spencer said. "She's a bright, up-and-coming coach whose passion and expertise will be invaluable as she works alongside Coach Deering to develop a lethal battery. I'm thrilled to welcome her to our staff and look forward to growing our game together."

Miller's coaching career includes stops at Utah Valley University and Kansas Wesleyan University before her time at Fresno State. At Utah Valley, Miller served as an assistant coach from 2019-20 before a brief stint as the interim head coach in 2020. While on staff at Kansas Wesleyan, Miller served as the interim head coach, assistant coach and graduate assistant from 2016-18. During her time there, she helped lead the program to a conference championship, accumulating five first-team All-KCA selections, three second-team honorees, six honorable mentions and one Golden Glove winner.

"I'm incredibly humbled and honored to join the Golden Bear family and become a part of a program that sits at the crossroads of world-class academics and championship-caliber athletics," Miller said. "Berkeley has a long-standing tradition of empowering bold thinkers and resilient competitors while developing the whole person where the wins we earn on the diamond echo long after graduation. I'm deeply grateful to Coach Spencer for the opportunity to join her staff and contribute to a culture built on trust, ambition, and growth."

Miller spent four years as a pitcher during her collegiate career from 2012-15 at Florida International University, where she was named to the Sun Belt Conference All-Tournament Team in 2012. She earned a degree in hospitality and tourism management before earning an MBA at Kansas Wesleyan.
