California men's gymnastics rising sophomore Matteo Bardana, who was named to the Canadian Senior Next Gen National Team after winning five medals and four titles at Elite Canada, will compete in his first international assignment with the squad this week at the Rhine-Ruhr FISU World University Games held in Essen, Germany.

Bardana is slated to compete Tuesday at 5 a.m. PT in the men's artistic gymnastics team competition and will look to advance to the final session Wednesday, which begins at 12:55 a.m. PT. Fans can watch a live stream at fisu.tv. Results will be uploaded to fisu.net.

Bardana claimed the senior next gen parallel bars title, as well as bronze medals on floor and rings, at the Canadian Championships in May, following a successful collegiate season in which he was named All-MPSF on floor and qualified for the NCAA Championships final on both floor and rings. He was selected as the MPSF Freshman of the Week on Feb. 11 after taking the floor win at Air Force and helping Cal to what was then its highest team score of the season.
