Wy Signs With Reigning NWSL Champion Gotham FC
Former Cal Goalkeeper Pens First Pro Contract
Former California women's soccer goalkeeper
Teagan Wy signed her first professional contract with reigning NWSL champion Gotham FC, as announced by the club Friday. Wy is penned through the 2028 season and will join Gotham for its preseason training in Spain ahead of the inaugural FIFA Women's Champions Cup.
"We are incredibly proud of Teagan for achieving her lifelong goal of becoming a professional in the best soccer league in the world," Cal head coach
Neil McGuire said. "She has worked tirelessly on her craft, and no one deserves this more. She is a truly exceptional talent and world class person."
Wy was a three-year starter for the Bears and two-time all-conference selection that appeared in 53 matches and tallied 4,415 minutes played, 212 saves, and 14 shutouts. She is coming off a strong senior season where she posted a career-high eight wins and eight shutouts, and a career-best 1.11 goals-against average to go with 81 saves - which was the second most in the ACC. Wy also earned four ACC Defender of the Week awards last season, which was the most by any athlete in over 15 years.
Wy also has had a decorated international career, having represented the United States on multiple levels for the past six years,, starting at the U14 level. She was the starting keeper for Team USA at the 2024 U20 FIFA World Cup where she helped bring home the bronze medal. She made key plays down the stretch throughout the whole tournament, including a walk-off PK save that put the Americans into the semifinals. In January 2025, Wy was invited to the U.S. Futures Camp where she trained with the senior team.
Cal has now sent its last four prominent goalkeepers to professional ranks, including Wy's predecessor - Angelina Andersen - who was drafted in 2023 and made 22 starts for Angel FC this season. Emily Boyd was drafted in 2018 to the Chicago Red Stars, where she enjoyed a six-year career, and Emily Kruger played overseas for KR Reykjavik in Iceland before joining the Portland Thorns for two years.
Wy will join Andersen and former teammates Paige Metayer, Sydney Collins, and
Karlie Lema on the list of Cal alumnae on active NWSL rosters.
