 HEAVY HITTERS

Among 30 teams competing at the prestigious Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic last weekend, the Bears tied for the fourth-most home runs in the tournament field with eight. Of the nine ranked programs in attendance, Cal out-homered all but two, underscoring the team's power against elite competition. Carly Raven led the charge with three long balls while Kyndal Todd and Gator Robinson each added two. Anya German chipped in one, rounding out a potent weekend at the plate for the Bears.

PROGRAM LEGACY

The Bears have made 36 NCAA Tournament appearances in history, which ranks fourth all-time behind UCLA, Arizona and Florida State. Cal, which has advanced to each of the past three NCAA Regionals, has also qualified for the Women's College World Series 12 times. The Bears won the NCAA championship in 2002.[DC1]  That '02 National Championship crew were led by two future Hall of Famers, Jocelyn Forest and Cadance Harper. Harper still holds school season records for games played, doubles and assists, while her career marks include most at-bats, most games played and most doubles. Forest was the winning pitcher in the circle the day the Bears clinched its first NCAA women's team title ever at Cal. She was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player after posting a 4-0 record with a 0.50 ERA and 33 strikeouts in 28.0 innings of work at the Women's College World Series.

ABOUT STEVE SINGLETON
