STANFORD – The California men's gymnastics team returned to action Saturday evening after a two-week break from competition, traveling down to Stanford's Burnham Pavilion to meet the Cardinal for the third time this season at the Stanford International Collegiate. In addition to the hosting team and the Golden Bears, the meet featured partial squads from the U.S. National Team, the Mexican National Team, and a collection of "International All-Stars".

Of the two collegiate teams, it was Stanford that posted the higher final score at 323.900, but the Bears recorded their second-best total of the year (312.850) thanks to seven personal bests spanning four events as well as a season high on parallel bars (52.650).

Cal's standout event of the night was high bar, with three Bears recording noteworthy scores. Junior Tucker Yasunaga posted the routine of his life, adding nearly a full point to his personal best and posting the best execution score (9.25) of the night's high bar competitors for a result of 13.550, which tied the modern program record set by sophomore Matteo Bardana in Cal's season opener. Sophomore Troy Nuesca improved his career best by .150 to 13.350 thanks in part to a stuck dismount, a feat mirrored by Bardana with a matching 13.350 plus a stick in the anchor spot.

Bardana's standout night continued with a massive personal best of 13.900 on parallel bars and a score of 13.700 on floor, both of which helped him to a score of 78.050 in the all-around that was his best in a Cal uniform by over two full points. Junior Brendan Strom made his season debut on parallel bars in the anchor position, showing out with a significant personal best of 13.900, a stuck dismount, and an execution score of 9.3 that topped all gymnasts in the event.

Redshirt senior Jasper Smith-Gordon was the Bears' top scorer on vault with a 14.150, followed by junior Harry Kim's personal-record 13.750. Kim tied with freshman Davide Comparin on pommel horse for Cal's top score on the event, which also marked a massive PR for the rookie.
