Cal Wraps Road Trip At Pitt Sunday
Bears Look For ACC Weekend Sweep
The California women's basketball team (14-10, 5-6 ACC) will look for its first ACC weekend sweep this season when it faces Pitt at the Petersen Events Center in Pittsburgh on Sunday at 10 a.m. PT.
This is just the third overall meeting between the two programs with Cal having won both of the previous matchups. This marks the Bears' first-ever trip to Pittsburgh. In the last contest at Cal last year,
Lulu Twidale finished with 15 points which included four 3-pointers.
Pitt is 8-16 overall and 1-10 in ACC play and is led by third-year head coach Tory Verdi who guided the team to its highest win total (13) since the 2016-17 season. The Panthers feature Mikayla Johnson who leads the team in scoring (12.9) and Fatima Diakhate who ranks sixth in the ACC in rebounding (8.9).
Sunday's game will steam on ACCNX with Jeff Hathhorn and Brianne O'Rouke Kelly on the call.

In the 63-56 Cal win at Georgia Tech on Thursday:
- Gisella Maul scored 10 points in the fourth quarter and posted her third double-double of the season with 17 points and a career-tying 13 rebounds.
- Sakima Walker joined Maul with a double-double for her fifth of the season after finishing with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
- Mjracle Sheppard rounded out the Bears in double figures with 13 points while adding four steals – two of which she took the distance for layups.
- The Bears outrebounded the Yellow Jackets (10-14, 5-7) 41-31 after they came into the game averaging 41.4 boards per game.
Starting Five
- Over her last three games, Sheppard is averaging 14.7 points per game on 64.0% shooting along with 5.7 assists and 3.3 steals.
- Over her last five games, Maul is averaging 15.4 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 4.2 assists. She's also averaging 2.6 triples and is shooting 58.5% from the field and a blistering 59.0% from deep during that span and is only one of four players in the NCAA to do so.
- Walker ranks second in the ACC in field goal percentage (55.4) and third in blocks (40).
- 1,000-point club - Twidale needs just nine more points to become the 29th player in Cal program history to reach 1,000 points.
- For the month of January, Twidale led the ACC in 3PM (28) and was fifth in assists (43), and Sheppard ranked seventh in the ACC in assists (41). She and Twidale were one of only two duos in the ACC to rank in the top 10.
Inside Twidale's Week at Syracuse (1/15) and Boston College (1/18)
For the week (1/12 – 1/18):
- Led the ACC in points (52), assists (21) and 3-pointers (12).
- Led the country in assists.
- Was second in the country in 3-pointers.
- Was seventh in the country in points.
- Only player in the country to rank in the top 10 across all three categories.
- Averaged a double-double at 26.0 points, 10.5 assists and 6.0 3-pointers.
- Was one of only four players in the country to have 12 assists in a game.
- Was one of only two players in the country to average 10-plus points and 10-plus assists.
At Boston College:
- Became the only player in the NCAA not named Caitlin Clark (4 times) to post 36 points, eight 3-pointers and nine assists in a game (since at least 2002-03 according to Stathead)
- The eight 3-pointers were second most in a game in program history (Asha Thomas: 9 vs Manhattan on Nov. 24, 2017), the second most by an ACC player this season and tied for the seventh most in ACC history.
- The 36 points were the most by a Cal player since 2018 (Kristine Anigwe: 37 vs Houston on Nov. 6).
- Became just the fifth player in program history to score at least 36 points in a game.
At Syracuse:
- Posted first career double-double with 16 points and a career-high 12 assists along with four triples for second consecutive game.
- Became just the fifth ACC player to have 12 assists in a game this season.
- Became just the seventh player in Cal history with 12 assists in a game.
- Nailed two crucial 3-pointers in the final 21 seconds of the first overtime (including one with .3 seconds left) to force double-overtime.
