Cal Falls At Duke, 16-7

Golden Bears Never Lead In Contest

DURHAM, N.C. - The California lacrosse team (3-3, 1-1 ACC) suffered a 16-7 loss at No. 23 Duke (4-2, 1-1 ACC) in an Atlantic Coast Conference contest the Golden Bears never led at Koskinen Stadium. The Blue Devils scored the game's first four points and Cal would never pull any closer than three the rest of the way.

Cal's best stretch came late in the third period when the Bears scored four of the final five goals of the frame to pull within 12-7 heading into the final 15 minutes.

But Cal would not score in the fourth while the Blue Devils found the back of the net four times for the final margin.

Cal's leading scorer Courtney Wong finished with three of the Bears' seven goals, while Charlotte native Ardyn Henry netted two. Avery Hoeft added one goal and two assists and Jane Middleton also scored a goal.

Three Duke players - Ava Biancardi, Avery Doran and Sadie Stafford - had hat tricks with Doran also picking up an assist to give her a game-high four points. Maddie Macdonald added two goals for the Blue Devils, while Caroline Doyle, Bella Goodwin, McKenzie Olsen, Eva Pronti and Reese Woodworth had one each. Goodwin also had a game-high two assists, while Pronti and Caitlin Barrett picked up one assist apiece.

Cal continues its current two-game road trip with an ACC contest at No. 12 Syracuse (2-3, 1-2 ACC). First draw is at 2 pm PT on ACCNX/ESPN+.
