SARATOGA – The California softball team fell in extra innings, 11-6, to North Carolina on Friday evening at Viking Field.

The Tar Heels jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning and added two more runs in the second to take a 4-0 advantage through two.

Anaya Togia got the Bears on the board in the third with a fielder's choice to cut the deficit to 4-1.

Anya German crushed a two-run home run to deep left field in the fourth to bring Cal within one, 4-3.

North Carolina added a run in both the fifth and sixth innings to extend its lead to 6-3.

Kyndal Todd gave the Bears new life in the sixth with a no-doubt homer over the right field wall, making it a 6-4 game.

In the seventh, Carly Raven and Madison Rey delivered back-to-back RBI doubles to tie the game and send it to extra innings.

The Tar Heels broke through with five runs in the eighth to secure the 11-6 win.

Cal drops to 9-18 on the season and returns to action Saturday for game two against North Carolina. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. PT.
