Ehinger Earns MPSF Freshman Of The Week Honors
Rookie Posted First 14-Plus Floor Score In Modern Program History
For the second week in a row, an athlete from the California men's gymnastics team has been named the MPSF Freshman of the Week, as the conference announced Tuesday that rookie
JD Ehinger is the latest to receive the award for his outstanding performance this past Saturday at the Stanford Quad Meet - one week after classmate
Nathan Underhill picked up his second such honor.
Ehinger, a native of Coppell, Texas, made his collegiate debut at Burnham Pavilion as the Golden Bears' leadoff man on floor and recorded a 14.150 for the first 14-plus floor score in modern program history. His performance, which also included a stuck dismount, helped Cal to a new modern program record (55.200) on the event.
This is the second year in program history that multiple Bears have won MPSF Freshman of the Week honors, with the first such season happening in 2024 as
Carter Kim,
Brendan Strom and
Jaxon Mitchell each received a nod.
Ehinger and the Bears will be back in action this Saturday at home against top-ranked Oklahoma, with the first rotation scheduled for 7 p.m. PT.
