TALLAHASSEE – The California softball team fell to No. 10 Florida State, 12-2, in five innings on Friday afternoon at JoAnne Graf Field to open the series.

The Seminoles jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the second inning on an RBI triple and RBI double. Florida State added three more runs in the third on a home run to center field to extend its advantage to 5-0.

Cal answered in the fourth when Kyndal Todd launched a two-run home run to cut the deficit to 5-2. The homer was Todd's team-leading sixth of the season.

Florida State responded with seven runs in the bottom of the fourth to end the game early and secure the 12-2 win.

Cal dropped to 10-20 overall and 1-6 in ACC play. The Bears return to action on Saturday for game two against the Seminoles.
