SACRAMENTO – The California softball team dropped game one of its series against No. 25 Duke, falling 12-0 at Shea Stadium.

Cal entered the home half of the first trailing 1-0 after right-handed pitcher Tamya Waiters surrendered one run on two hits while stranding three Blue Devils on base.

After a scoreless second inning, Duke extended its lead to 3-0 in the third using three hits to drive in two runs.

The Blue Devils added four runs in the fourth and five in the fifth to end the game early.

Cal (8-15) returns to Shea Stadium tomorrow for game two against Duke. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. PT.
