SACRAMENTO – The No. 9 California women's rowing team won its flight in the varsity eight on Saturday afternoon, defeating No. 6 Washington, No. 17 Michigan, No. 20 UCLA and Notre Dame with a time of 6:10.923 on the first day of the Big Ten Invitational on Lake Natoma.

The Golden Bears outdistanced the Huskies, who completed the course in a time of 6:13.538.

Cal swept its flights in the morning session, winning another varsity eight race over No. 23 Indiana, Minnesota and Washington State with a mark of 6:12.154. The Bears also won flights in the second varsity eight and the first and second varsity four races.

The Bears also won the third varsity eight race against Washington, Michigan and UCLA.

The Big Ten Invitational concludes Sunday morning with two more sets of flights.
