Decathlete Recorded 5 Wins At Brutus Hamilton Multis
California track & field decathlete
Luke Buddie was named the ACC Men's Field Athlete of the Week after winning the decathlon at the Brutus Hamilton Multis, as announced by the conference Tuesday. This is the first conference weekly award for Buddie, a redshirt junior for the Golden Bears, who also becomes the first Cal decathlete to claim such an honor since school record-holder Mike Morrison in 2011.
Competing in his first decathlon in two seasons, Buddie finished with a personal-best score of 7168 after claiming individual wins in the long jump (6.96m/22-10), shot put (12.74m/41-9.75), high jump (1.95m/6-4.75) and 110m hurdles (15.07). Both his shot put and hurdles marks were also personal records, along with his 100m time of 11.21, his pole vault mark of 4.40m (14-5.25) and his 1500m time of 4:39.65. He currently ranks No. 1 in the ACC decathlon standings and is No. 11 in the NCAA.
Buddie is the fourth Cal athlete directly instructed by assistant coach Dan Lefever to win an ACC weekly award this season, joining pole vaulters
Sam Novak,
Ali Sahaida and
Kai Anderson.
The Bears will be back in action this week at The Farm, competing in The 131st Big Meet against Stanford on April 11.
