BERKELEY, CALIF. -
Cal Men's Swimming and Diving made a rather impressive showing at the Annual Intercollegiate Athletics Academic Honors Luncheon Wednesday, May 14 in the Pauley Ballroom.
Justin Pollard was the star of the day being awarded:
Pac-10 Post Graduate Scholarship ~ $3000 stipend for graduate study;
Neufeld Scholar Athlete Award ~ highest cumulative GPA (3.926); and
Walter A Haas, Jr. Community Service Award ~ commitment and service to the university and larger community.
Paul Hernandez was awarded an Oscar Geballe Post Graduate Scholarship ~ $5000 stipend for graduate study. Paul graduated with a 3.923 cumulative GPA, and as far as we know is the only team member to published in a peer reviewed professional journal as an undergraduate.
Jernej Godec was awarded a Pac-10 Post Graduate Scholarship ~ $3000 stipend for graduate study. Jernej's GPA for the Fall Semester was 3.908
In addition the following were selected for the Pac-10 All-Academic First Team, placing more than any other sport: Eric Dunipace, Richard Hunter, Justin Pollard, Matt Scanlan, Louis Vayo, Jernej Godec, and Ian Lentz. William Copeland, Sam Helvie, David Russell, and Scott Sorge were selected for the Pac-10 All-Academic Honorable Mention Team.
