In water polo competed for the USA National Youth Training team in 2007 and the USA National Development Team in 2005
Won the 1650 free in 15:38.77 at the 2009 USA Swimming Sectional in Las Vegas

Competed in both water polo and swimming at Granite Bay High School, earning All-America and All-City honors in swimming in 2007 and 2008
Set the league record in the 500 free and established school records in the 200 and 500 free
Won the 2008 CIF Sac-Joaquin title in the 500 free (4:31.90)
In water polo was first-team All-CIF Sac-Joaquin Section and first-team All-Sierra league in 2007 and 2008, finishing his career with 224 goals and 144 assists

Father, Stephen, was an All-American swimmer at USC in the 70's, and sister Katie also swam for the Trojans
Brother, Jeff, was a standout water polo player at Cal, helping the Bears to NCAA titles in 2006 and 2007
