B.K. Santy

B.K. Santy joined the Bears as a volunteer assistant coach for the 2016 season, serving as first base coach and working primarily with the catchers. Santy previously coached at the University of San Diego, serving as the graduate assistant, and at Palomar College for a team that reached the state Final Four Championships in 2015 and ended ranked No. 11 in the nation.
 
A San Diego, Calif. native, Santy attended the University of Washington where he played two seasons for the Huskies after being named an All-Conference selection and conference Gold Glove winner behind the plate at Palomar. Santy appeared in 91 games (80 starts) for the Huskies in 2011 and 2012, batting .285 with three home runs and 32 RBI as a catcher. After his senior season, he was selected in the 30th round of the 2012 MLB Draft by the Minnesota Twins and hit .253 in parts of three minor league seasons, most recently playing with the Cedar Rapids Kernels at the A-ball level.
 
As a coach, Santy has produced two All-American catchers and high selections in the MLB Draft (Francis Christy, seventh round, 2015 and Brett Cumberland, second round, 2016). In 2016, Cumberland earned Pac-12 Player of the Year honors as well as several All-American awards after leading the conference in both home runs and RBI.
