Andrew McGraw is in his 26th season at Cal in 2022 and his fifth as Football Chief of Staff after most recently serving as Assistant Athletic Director, Director of Football Operations.
In McGraw’s current role, he assists Travers Family Head Football Coach Justin Wilcox with overseeing the daily operation of the football program. He is responsible for the football operating budget, team travel, summer camps and scheduling. Additionally, he supervises various support staff units within the football department and serves as staff liaison for sports medicine, compliance, housing and athletic communications.
Prior to moving into operations, McGraw was the program's Director of Player Personnel and helped the Golden Bears sign some of their most highly-ranked recruiting classes in program history, including three consecutive groups from 2010-12 that ranked as high as No. 11, No. 13 and No. 15 nationally. During his time overseeing the recruiting department, Cal produced a number of players who went on to enjoy prolific NFL careers (Aaron Rodgers, Marshawn Lynch, Jared Goff, DeSean Jackson, C.J. Anderson, Alex Mack, Tyson Alualu, Cameron Jordan and Nnamdi Asomugha – to name a few). Under McGraw’s leadership, the recruiting department helped Cal rank in the top 10 nationally and second in the Pac-12 for most players active in the NFL for multiple seasons.
McGraw started his tenure at Cal in 1996 as a recruiting assistant under then head coach Steve Mariucci. He spent the following two seasons as a defensive quality control coach before moving into his role as Director of Player Personnel.
McGraw received his bachelor’s degree in geography from Cal in 1995. In the offseason, he has been seen performing on the drums in the popular Bay Area band – Tightwad Hill.
He and his wife, Stephanie, have two children – son, Zach, and daughter, Ella.
