Brian Hamilton is in his first season as a quality control coach on the offensive side of the ball at Cal in 2015 after being hired on August 4, 2015.

Hamilton coached for 14 seasons at the prep level and most recently served as the head coach and Director of Athletics at nearby Concord High School for the past 11 campaigns where he led the Minutemen to the Division II North Coast Section title game in three of his final five seasons including a section crown in 2010.

Some of the top coaches at both the collegiate and professional levels began in the high school ranks and we think Brian has everything it takes to develop into an excellent coach at the next level.”

In addition to a 2010 Division II section title, Concord finished as section runners-up in 2011 and 2014 while reaching the section semifinals in 2012. He finished with a 81-49-1 overall record in 11 seasons at Concord, including a 68-21-1 mark over his final seven campaigns including double-digit wins in four of his last five seasons and North Coast Section playoffs each season.

Hamilton earned Contra Costa Times Coach of the Year honors for all divisions after his 2010 section title squad finished 13-1 overall and capped its season with a 40-37 victory over Rancho Cotate in Oakland’s O.Co Coliseum. The Minutemen featured quarterback Ricky Lloyd, who led the state in passing yards (4,451) and ranked third in the touchdown passes (52). He was also fourth in the nation in passing yards.

Hamilton was runner-up for the San Francisco Chronicle’s Coach of the Year for all divisions in 2011 when his squad returned to the section title game and finished the season 10-5 overall. One season after featuring a prolific passing attack with Lloyd as the signal-caller, the Minutemen took to the ground with an attack featuring Olito Thompson, who finished with 3,488 yards rushing to lead the state and rank fourth in the nation while adding 35 touchdowns on the ground.

In his final season at Concord in 2014, quarterback Mitch Daniels threw for 57 touchdowns and 3,928 yards to rank third and sixth in the state, respectively.

Prior to his tenure at Concord, Hamilton spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Clayton Valley High School. He was the team’s offensive coordinator in in 2003 after serving as the offensive line coach in 2002.

Hamilton began his coaching career as the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at Southern Springs High School in Aurora, N.Y. for one season in 2001.

Hamilton has also served as a consultant for the Tony Franklin System seminars since 2007 and was a guest speaker at Nike Coach of the Year clinics for three years (2009-11) focusing on offensive line play in the spread offense, total program development and special teams philosophy.

Hamilton played football for two seasons at SUNY Cortland (1999-2000) where he earned his bachelor’s degree in education in December of 2000. He also played for two campaigns at Pasadena City College (1995-96) after graduating from South Pasadena High School in 1994.
