Cheryl Cox is in her sixth season as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at Cal in 2020. She serves as the head strength coach for the beach volleyball and women's gymnastics programs, and previously coached at Georgetown University and Pepperdine University.

In addition to her strength and conditioning duties, Cox holds the position of sports science operations. In this role she manages Cal’s sports science department for intercollegiate athletics where she utilizes technologies such as Catapult and Polar Team 2 to improve all facets of student-athlete performance for the football team as well as the rest of Cal's sport programs. 

Outside of her coaching duties, Cox serves as a mentor for the Sports Tech Challenge Lab at the Sutardja Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology and is a board member for Golden Girls - a student organization uniting Cal's women's athletic teams to foster a collaborative environment for empowering women.

Prior to arriving at Cal, Cox was an assistant strength and conditioning coach at Georgetown (2012-2014) and at Pepperdine (2014). While at Georgetown, she worked with the men's and women’s basketball teams, as well as football, men's and women’s swimming and diving, women’s soccer, sailing and women’s volleyball. At Pepperdine, Cox oversaw all aspects of the Waves’ cross-country, women’s track & field and women’s swimming and diving teams. 

Cox herself is a Cal alumna who graduated in 2008 with a degree in integrative biology and earned a master’s degree in exercise science with a concentration in strength and conditioning from George Washington University in 2013.

She is a published research scientist whose work can be found in The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism (2012) and The Journal of Lipid Research (2011).
