Austin Risenhoover coached five seasons with Cal women’s soccer team with the last season being in 2021. He was elevated to the position of associate head coach after the 2018 season. Risenhoover joined the program in March of 2017 as an assistant coach and also served as the program’s recruiting coordinator.
During his time in Berkeley, Risenhoover has helped recruit and develop some of the top talent in the nation. The Golden Bears have produced 13 All-Pac-12 honorees, nine All-Region honorees, three All-Americans and five Pac-12 All-Freshman selections in Risenhoover’s first four seasons.
Additionally, Risenhoover has proven himself an excellent recruiter as the the Bears’ notched a top-10 nationally-ranked class according to TopDrawerSoccer in 2019 and followed that with the No. 1 ranked class in 2021 as he was able to get players to commit to the Bears, despite dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic.
In addition to individual accolades, Risenhoover has helped the Bears to a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances during his tenure in Berkeley. He also helped the team to a historic start to the 2019 season, winning their first eight matches of the year, matching the Bears' 2000 squad for the second-best start to a season in program history. The Bears also registered a pair of Top-10 wins over No. 4 USC (3-0 on October 18) and No. 7 UCLA (2-1 on September 27), sweeping their LA rivals for the first time since 1996.
Prior to his arrival at Cal, Risenhoover spent four seasons at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and was elevated to associate head coach for the 2015 and 2016 seasons. In his last two seasons with the Gauchos, Risenhoover led the team to back-to-back seasons with double-digit wins. Risenhoover holds a U.S. Soccer Federation “C” license and a National Youth License.
Before coaching at UCSB, Risenhoover served as an assistant at Cal State Monterey Bay for two seasons, having previously spent time coaching and working in operations at the University of Oklahoma.
Risenhoover began his coaching career at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma, serving as an assistant coach for the Drover men's and women's teams. He had his hands in many facets of the programs, including training, scouting, recruiting and operations. While there, he helped the women's team to the first NAIA Top 25 ranking in school history.
Risenhoover also has extensive experience coaching at both the club and high school levels, and led Edmond North High School (Okla.) to a 6A State Championship in 2010.
Risenhoover played collegiately at Bacone College in Oklahoma, where he was a two–time first team All–Red River Conference pick for the Warriors. He graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma in 2005 with a degree in physical education and health sciences.
Risenhoover and his wife, Jillian, have one daughter, Gracyn, and one son, Landon.
