Cal Volleyball Falls to No. 18 Arizona, 3-0

BERKELEY, CA - The University of California women's volleyball team (7-10, 3-6 in the Pac-10) lost its fourth match in a row as it fell to No. 18 Arizona, 3-0 (15-10, 15-3, 15-10), Saturday evening at Haas Pavilion. The Wildcats improved to 12-5 overall and 6-3 in the Pac-10.

The Bears struggled with a .029 team hitting percentage, but were led by senior outside hitter Brook Coulter with a team-high seven kills and three service aces. Junior outside hitter Alicia Perry led Cal with 10 digs. Arizona's top hitter was freshman outside hitter Lisa Rutledge with 16 kills and junior middle blocker Marisa DaLee added 14 kills.

The Bears fell behind early in the first two games, trailing 8-1 in game one and 7-1 in game two. The closest Cal got in the first game was 11-10 on a Coulter service ace, before the Wildcats ran off the next four points for the 15-10 win. The Bears were totally outmatched in the second game, but had a better effort in the third game, getting within 12-10 with the help of a Coulter kill and block assists from freshmen Courtney Guerra and Leah Young. Guerra and Young finished the match with four block assists apiece.

Cal will next travel to San Jose State Tuesday, Oct. 19 at 7:30 p.m. at the Event Center in San Jose, before taking on Stanford, Friday, Oct. 22 at Maples Pavilion on the Stanford campus.
