FRESNO, CA - Senior left fielder Curtis Johnson hit a two-run homer in the top of the 12th inning to lead California (6-10) to a crazy 12-10 victory over No. 20 ranked Fresno State (11-4), Tuesday night in Fresno. Junior third baseman Xavier Nady had hit a one-out single off of Bulldog reliever Shawn Hannah (2-2, three hits, two runs, one walk) to begin the rally. Nady advanced to second on a ground out to shortstop by Mike Tonis, setting up Johnson's heroics with two outs. It was Johnson's first home run of the season.

The win over Fresno State broke a four-game Bear losing streak.

Junior right-hander Rob Meyer (1-0, one hit, no runs, three walks) ended up getting the win for Cal, coming in from right field in the 11th. In the bottom of the 11th, Meyer was able to get Joey Wolfe to fly out to short center with the bases loaded to salvage the Bear win. Cal center fielder Nick Medrano had to dive to his knees to catch the shallow fly ball that had hung up in the fogg. Meyer only gave up a two-out walk in the bottom of the 12th before getting Anthony Acevedo to fly out to Johnson.

The game saw several lead changes with Fresno State jumping out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the third when the Acevedo hit a grand slam off of Cal's Andrew Sproul. The Bears responded by scoring nine runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take a 9-4 lead. But, Cal relievers couldn't hold the lead, giving up five runs in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game, 9-9. Both teams scored a run in the 10th with junior catcher Mike Tonis knocking in Xavier Nady with a two-out double and Fresno State scoring on a throwing error by Nady on a play that the ball bounced off a runner at first base.
