STANFORD, Calif. - Juniors David Torrence and Rebecca Yau led California with 11th and 26th-place showings at the Pac-10 Championships Saturday at Stanford Golf Course. Torrence covered the 8K course in 23:44.83, while Yau toured the 6K course in 21:35.57.

The Cal men placed eighth as a team with 179 points, while the Bears' women's squad took ninth with 260 points. Host Stanford won the women's title with 22 points, while Oregon men squeaked out a win over Stanford with 53 points.

Arizona State placed second one the women's side with 51 points, followed by Washington with 96. Stanford was second on the men's leader board with 58 points, while Arizona took third at 107.

Torrence led Cal for the third straight competition and easily bettered his 44th-place finish (26:28.60) in his only other appearance at the Pac-10 Cross Country Championships in 2003. Yau has topped the Bears in four consecutive races and has paced her team at the conference meet for the second straight year (27th in 22:04 in 2005).

Sophomore Mark Matusak was the Cal men's next fastest runner, grabbing 23rd in 24:18.57. Sophomore Jake Schmitt (50th, 24:58.02) and freshmen Steve Sodara (52nd, 24:59.20) and Michael Coe (62nd, 25:31.49) also scored for Cal.

Sophomore Rebecca Palm crossed the finish line second for the Cal women in 57th place (22:29.13). Senior Elizabeth Mayeda (73rd, 22:53.86), redshirst freshman Gabriela Rios-Sotelo (75th, 22:57.14) and freshman Alison Greggor (78th, 23:14.44) rounded out the Bears' scorers.

Oregon's Galen Rupp took top honors in the men's event, clocking in at 23:03.12, while Stanford grabbed the first three spots in the women's race, led by Arianna Lambie in 20:15.09.

Cal next prepares for the NCAA West Regional Saturday, Nov. 11, at the University of Portland.
