Final Stats

STOCKTON - In the final minute of regulation, Pacific scored the game-winning goal and defeated California, 2-1, Saturday afternoon at Brookside Field in the NorPac conference opener. Junior Natalie Nurnberg recorded the Golden Bears' goal. Cal falls to 2-2, 0-1 on the season, while Pacific improves to 2-2, 1-0.

At the outset of the match, the Bears earned a corner and sophomore Erin Magill blasted a shot that was stopped by the Pacific keeper. It was one of two shots on the day for Magill.

In the ninth minute, the Tigers tallied their first score. Kiddy Leubane dove for cross pass on the right side of the goal and was about to find the back of the cage. Sarah Miceli earned an assist on Leubane's second goal of the season.

Just before halftime, Nurnberg tied the game with her score in the 35th minute. Nurnberg dribbled up the right baseline and beat the keeper to the far right corner. Nurnberg led all players with three shots. The goal was Nurnberg's third of the season and she leads the Bears in that category.

The match remained tied until the final minute of regulation when Katy Mcdonough tallied the gamewinner. Mcdonough received a pass down the left side after a corner and took a shot three yards from the goal. Kelly Perkins earned the assist on Mcdonough's second score of 2009.

Cal earned three more corners than Pacific (7-4) and outshot the Tigers, 12-7. Pacific's goalkeeper, Ashlee Schlesier recorded five saves.

The Bears head to the East Coast next week for three matches. The first contest will be Friday, Sept. 18, at American at 12 p.m. (PT). Cal will also face Delaware and Maryland on the road trip.
