NORMAN, Okla. - In a see-saw of a meet between No. 1 Oklahoma and No. 4 California, the Sooners took home the meet victory, 360.850-357.750, on Saturday evening. The Golden Bears won parallel bars and vault as a team but the Sooners won the other four events to power them to the victory.
Steven Lacombe finished first amongst all competitors on rings for the title while Donothan Bailey won parallel bars.
The Sooners established an early lead, winning pommel horse and floor. At the end of four rotations, the Bears were leading, 180.600-180.350 with rings, high bar and parallel bars awaiting them. The Sooners regained the advantage with one rotation remaining - Oklahoma on high bar and Cal on parallel bars - 301.050-298.650. Owning a 74.750 all-around score going into the final rotation, Steven Legendre held a 1.300 lead over Donothan Bailey and Dennis Mannhart, who were tied at 73.450.
In the end, Bailey took second with an 88.750 and Mannhart third (88.400) in the all-around behind Legendre's 90.400.
On pommel horse, Kyle Bunthuwong notched a team-high 15.100 for second place. Donothan Bailey was next in line with a 14.700 for fourth and Dennis Mannhart scored a 14.500 for fifth. The Bears were narrowly edged on the event, 59.250-58.450, thanks to Oklahoma's Alex Naddour scoring 15.750 to win the event.
The Sooners had three student-athletes score above a 15.000 to outpace the Bears on floor to take the event 60.450-58.550. National team member Steven Legendre won the event with a 15.950 and Patrick Piscitelli (15.100) and Bobby Shortle (15.000) rounded out the medal stand. Eric Haeussler scored a 14.850 to lead his teammates and take fourth overall while Mannhart was next in line and fifth at 14.800. Daniel Culpepper notched a 14.600 for sixth.
Cal beat the Sooners on vault by .300 - 63.600-63.300 - thanks to three Bears scoring a 16.000 or higher. Christian Monteclaro scored 16.100 to tie Oklahoma's Ian Jackson for first, pushing Jean Monteclaro and Steven Lacombe, who both tallied 16.000, into a tie for third. Matthew del Junco and Dennis Mannhart also tied each other with a pair of 15.500.
Oklahoma may have emerged the victor on rings, 60.650-59.650, but it was Cal's Lacombe who won the event by scoring a 15.750. Sooner Chris Stehl was the nearest finisher on either team with a 15.500, followed by Ian Jackson with a 15.400. Next in line for the Bears were Christian Monteclaro (14.750) and Donothan Bailey (14.700).

Cal won parallel bars, 59.100-57.400 thanks to Bailey's event-winning 15.300. Mannhart also fueled Cal's fire with a 14.950 for second place. Jim Kerry tied with two Sooners for third, all scoring 14.500. The highest score a Sooner received on parallel bars was a 14.500, which went to Jeremy Adams and Alex Naddour.
