EUGENE, Ore. - The No. 1 California softball team suffered its third loss of the entire season on Saturday evening, dropping a 1-0 decision to No. 14/18 Oregon at the Ducks' Howe Field.
After Friday evening's high-scoring affair that ended in an 8-1 Cal victory, Saturday's game saw the Ducks score once in the sixth to eek the one-run win over the Bears.
Howard led off the bottom of the sixth with a single off the right-center wall and went to second off a Takeda sacrifice bunt. On an Arioto wild pitch, Howard went to third and barely beat the tag on the throw from home. With two outs and 1-0 count, Cuico singled to right, driving in Howard from third.
The Ducks outhit the Bears 5-4 with Jamia Reid, Valerie Arioto, Danielle Henderson and Elia Reid all producing one hit apiece.
Arioto (18-2) took the loss after allowing the sole earned run on five hits and one walk. Moore (22-7) gave up four hits and one walk but fanned eight.
The series concludes Sunday at noon at Howe Field.
