SEATTLE, WASH. - Lucas Erceg was again the hero for the Golden Bears, hitting the game-winning homer in the eighth inning to lead Cal to a 3-2 victory over Washington at Husky Ballpark. It was the second day in a row the sophomore third baseman hit a solo shot over the fence to lead David Esquer's squad to a 3-2 Pac-12 road win.

With the victory, the Bears improved to 17-5 overall and 4-1 in the Pac-12. For the second day in a row, senior right-hander Dylan Nelson earned the save, while sophomore right-hander Alex Schick picked up the win in relief, pitching 2.0 innings with no hits, no runs, two walks and three strikeouts.

Washington scored the first run of the game in the third inning on a sacrifice fly off of Cal starter Ryan Mason (6.2 innings, 12 hits, two runs, one earned run, no walks, two strikeouts). The Bears came back with two runs in the fourth inning on a solo home run by senior first baseman Chris Paul and an RBI single by junior designated hitter Mitchell Kranson.

The Huskies came back to tie the contest, 2-2, with a run in the fifth inning on Chris Baker's RBI double off of Mason. But, Cal's right-hander was able to shutdown Washington before being relieved by Schick.

Then, Erceg struck again, this time hitting his game-winning homer over the left field fence off of UW starter Tyler Davis, who threw a complete game.

"It was another gutty performance by Ryan Mason, giving us a chance to win," said Esquer. "Alex Schick was great out of the pen and Dylan Nelson was able to close it. We also had the big swings by Paul and Erceg, and a great defensive play by Paul to end the game (digging out a throw from shortstop Preston Grand Pre with a runner on base).

Cal will attempt to sweep a Pac-12 road series at Washington when the two teams meet Sunday at 1 p.m. at Husky Ballpark.
