DAVIS, Calif. -- One day after cruising to a pair of decisive wins, the No. 4-ranked Cal men's water polo team wrapped up play at the Aggie Roundup with more of the same as the Bears collected one-sided victories over Concordia and Fresno Pacific to finish the weekend a perfect 4-0.

Cal (11-2) now turns its attention to the start of Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) play as the Bears prepare to travel to UC Santa Barbara next weekend to open conference play.

Cal 19, Concordia 4

A strong first half allowed the Bears to separate on the scoreboard immediately but the second half was even more impressive as Cal outscored Concordia 10-0 in the third and fourth periods to begin the day with a resounding victory.

Playing the day's first match at Schaal Aquatics Center, Cal wasted no time building a lead. Freshman Johnny Hooper scored twice in the first period and goals by Nicholas Carniglia, Pedro Stellet, J.D. Ratchford and Odysseas Masmanidis added to the Bears' lead. Carniglia, Stellet and Chandler Jarrels added a goal apiece in the second and the Bears led 9-4 at the midway point.

That advantage only continued to grow in the third and fourth periods as Cal rotated players and got playing time for the entire roster. Farrel South had an impressive third period with three goals and that left him tied for match-high honors in scoring with Hooper and Masmanidis by the end.

Vassilis Tzavaras, Conor Neumann, Timothy Simenc and Thomas Appel also scored in the second half for Cal. Starting goalkeeper Lazar Andric stopped three shots in three periods of play and Peter O'Laughlin stopped five shots without allowing a goal in the fourth.

The Bears returned to the pool as evening rolled around in Davis and, after a close first period, picked up where they left off as a massive second quarter put Cal ahead for good against the Sunbirds.

Fresno Pacific battled Cal to a stalemate through one period with two goals from Masmanidis leading the Bears to a 3-all tie through eight minutes. The freshman from Athens, Greece led the charge in the second, scoring three more before halftime to spark a nine-goal outburst that left Cal ahead 12-5 at halftime.

From there, Cal only continued to add on. The Bears outscored the Sunbirds 13-5 in the final two periods, with eight different players tallying multiple goals for the game. Masmanidis led both teams in scoring with five goals and Cupido had a great all-around game, finishing with three goals and four assists. O'Laughlin went the distance in goal and stopped eight shots.
