BERKELEY – A brisk battle concluded unfavorably for California men's soccer team Sunday.

In their Pac-12 opener, the Golden Bears were unable to find their footing in Stanford to end the Cardinal's undefeated home streak and suffered a 1-0 loss.Â

Despite heading into the half matched evenly with eight shots and no scores, Cal could not recover after Stanford's early second-half goal by Foster Langsford in the 46'. The Bears have come from behind to win or tie in three matches this season, most recently in their first road win against a then No. 25-ranked Santa Barbara.

While the Bay Area rivals kept the match tight in the first half, Stanford posted 10 shots in the second compared to five recorded by Cal.
"Each team scored a goal very close to being on- or offside," said head coach
Kevin Grimes. "Each team hit the post in the match. It was pretty even overall."
