Bailee Huizenga had 11 kills at a .364 hitting percentage but the Cal volleyball team fell to Arizona State 25-22, 25-22, 25-21 on Saturday at Wells Fargo Arena.
Sophomore
Belen Castillo added nine kills at a .438 clip senior
Jenelle Jordan had six kills and four blocks for the Bears (9-19, 3-15 Pac-12).
The Sun Devils led wire to wire in the first set and most of the second set before Cal came back to tie it at 22-22. ASU had led 22-19 but kills by Huizenga and sophomore
Carmen Annevelink and a hitting error by the Sun Devils tied things up. Arizona State was then able to score the final three points to take command of the match.
Cal got off to a strong start to begin the third set, starting with a 4-0 run that was capped off by a block Huizenga and Jordan. The Bears extended their advantage to 13-8 on a kill by Jordan.
But with Cal leading 16-14, the Sun Devils scored three in a row to take their first lead of the set. The Bears were still within 22-20 but Arizona St. scored the next two and went on to close out the win.
The Bears return for the final home match of the season Wednesday against Oregon State at 3 p.m. Cal will honor its seniors with a special pre-match ceremony.
