BERKELEY – Not only was it a sunny day in Berkeley, but it was a golden one for
Nick Lima.
The senior defender guided California's 2-1 overtime win against Penn State recording both goals for the Golden Bears (1-0-1) at Goldman Field on Sunday.
Lima headed the game-winning goal in the 91' of action that sent the team blazing across the field in celebration. The Castro Valley, Calif., native proved clutch after knocking in his first of the day early in the second half to tie the match at 1-1.

"It was a tremendous performance against and outstanding team in Penn State," head coach
Kevin Grimes said. "We had to dig as deep as we've ever dug before after coming off an overtime game on Friday. To be able to put on a performance like we did today was really a great sign moving forward."
Lima currently leads the team in goals scored after the opening weekend of the season. His aggressive play set the tone for the Bears' against the Nittany Lions (0-1-1) as the team recorded 21 shots, five on goal.
Penn State recorded nine shots overall, two on goal, but was no easy feat. The Big Ten team made an early statement netting its first and only goal of the game in the sixth minute on the play of Connor Maloney.

The last faceoff between the teams was in 2013 and ended in a 1-1 draw in 2013 in University Park, Penn. Â
 "This was a big step," the 17-year head coach said. "We have to take this performance and keep building on it."
Next up, the Bears head to the Midwest for a two-game road trip against No. 15 Indiana on Sept. 2 and No. 9 Notre Dame on Sept. 4.
