No. 21 Cal Remains Perfect At Home, Beats USF

BERKELEY --- Another home game, another victory.

The No. 21 California women's soccer team continued its winning ways at home with a 4-1 victory over the University of San Francisco Dons Friday afternoon at Goldman Field.

The non-conference finale for Cal (7-2-0) went extremely well for the home team against its Bay Area rival. After scoring four goals in one of its first seven games, the Golden Bears scored a quartet of goals for the second time in as many games against USF (3-6-0), marking the first time since 2014 that Cal has scored at least four times in back-to-back games.

Arielle Ship scored her third and fourth goals of the season by recording the first multi-goal match for the Bears this year. The reigning Pac-12 Player of the Year netted the first two goals of the game - the lone tally of the first half and the opening score of the second. Ship's first goal came in the 30th minute after she corralled the deflection of a saved Heather Walleigh shot and converted an attempt of her own. The second (53') came on a strong solo effort, taking a pass from the top of the attacking third deep into the box. Her multi-goal performance was her first since netting two scores in Cal's 7-0 rout of UCLA on October 29, 2015.

Freshman Abigail Kim got in on the action a minute later, scoring her second goal of her career off a double assist from seniors Emma Fletcher and Ifeoma Onumonu. Fellow newcomer Maggie Bell followed suit in the 66th minute with her first-ever goal after mimicking Ship's first goal, putting home a rebound off a shot from Fletcher.

Junior goalkeeper Emily Boyd and the Bears defense allowed its first home goal of the year in the 60th minute, ending its impressive Berkeley shutout streak at 419:14.

Cal will begin Pac-12 action on Friday, September 23 when the Bears host Oregon State at 3 p.m. in Berkeley.
