A's To Recognize 2016 Cal Olympians Tuesday
BERKELEY - Before the Oakland Athletics take on the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on Tuesday night, several members of the Cal contingent that competed at the Rio Olympics will be honored in a on-field ceremony hosted by the A's.
Tuesday's game is scheduled to begin at 7:05 p.m. at the Oakland Coliseum. The pre-game celebration will serve as part of Cal Night, with fans who purchase a special ticket receiving a Cal/A's beanie in addition to a Field Level seat. Fans are encouraged to arrive early as members of Cal's Olympic group will also throw out the game's ceremonial first pitch.
50 Cal athletes and staff traveled to Rio to take part in the 2016 Olympics and captured 21 medals, the second-most all time in a single Olympics for Cal athletes. 19 of those medals came in the pool, led by Olympic veterans
Nathan Adrian (two gold, two bronze), and
Dana Vollmer (one gold, one silver, one bronze) as well as current Cal senior
Ryan Murphy (three gold).Â
