TUCSON, Ariz. – Playing once again without two starters, the Cal volleyball team couldn't keep up with Arizona on Friday night and fell 25-16, 25-15, 25-13 at the McKale Center.
Starting outside hitter
Christine Alftin and starting setter
Mackenzie Albrecht each missed her second straight match because of injuries. Alftin and Albrecht are Cal's co-captains.
Redshirt junior
Ashten Smith-Gooden led the Bears (12-10, 3-8 Pac-12) with nine kills at a .286 hitting percentage while junior
Carmen Annevelink added five kills. Sophomore
Emma Smith had eight digs.
Freshman
Isabel Potter started at setter for the Bears and fellow freshman setter
Jordyn Schuette made her college debut, seeing time in two sets. Junior
Amanda Kirtley made her first career start at libero.
The Bears will be back in action Sunday when they visit Arizona State at 11 a.m. The match will be televised by the Pac-12 Networks.
