BERKELEY - California continues its win streak after a turnaround performance from seniorÂ
Paul Salcedo-Borrego on Friday night at Edwards Stadium.
After Santa Clara (0-8) opened scoring in the 31st minute, Salcedo-Borrego led the Golden Bears (5-2) to a 3-2 victory, scoring a  second-half hat trick to give Cal its fourth consecutive win to close its nonconference season.Â
Salcedo-Borrego, who was named to the Pac-12 honorable mention team a season ago, knocked in an equalizer in the 59th minute to tie things at 1-1. He was assisted by Sam Ebstein and
Jose Carrera-Garcia.Â
Energized by his first goal since 2015, the Inglewood, Calif. native, blazed in two more in the 66th minute and  84th minute to solidify the hat trick. His second goal was again on an assist from Carrera-Garcia, while his final score came from pulling the ball from Santa Clara players and pelting one right past the goalkeeper in the upper right of the net.Â
Santa Clara responded with a goal moments later but could not find the equalizer in time.
"I didn't have a great first half and Jose challenged me to have a game that we needed," Salcedo-Borrego said. "I gave it my all and it paid off. It was a great assist by Jose and Sam. I was feeling bummed out that I wasn't scoring, but I've been happy that the team has been winning. That's the most important thing.
"It's crucial going into conference play next. We are excited to play down south and this momentum is making us ready even more. It feels good to win and it's fun to win."Â
In his first collegiate start,
Noah Texter picked up his first win as goalkeeper recording six saves.
The Bears head to UCLA on Sept. 28 at 8 p.m. to open Pac-12 play, followed by a bout at San Diego State on Oct. 1 at noon.Â
