HAMDEN, Conn. – California stays perfect in away games this season after edging Quinnipiac 3-2 in the Quinnipiac Bobcat Invitational finale on Sunday. The Golden Bears extended their winning streak to five consecutive games, including a perfect 4-0 record on the road.
Â
Katrina Carter,
Janaye Sakkas and
Megan Rodgers scored in the effort, and
Lindsay Mathison earned her second assist of the weekend.
Maddie Cleat also notched an assist.
Â
For the first time in five games, the Bears were not the first team to jump on the board as Quinnipiac struck at 8:45 with a shot from Dayna Barlow.
Â
The Bobcats limited Cal's high-powered offense for nearly the entire first half, with the Bears edging Quinnipiac in shots, 5-4, after a flurry of offense in the final minutes of the period. At halftime, the hosting Bobcats led 1-0.
Â
The Bear offense came alive in the second half, scoring all three goals in a 17-minute span.
Katrina Carter stole the ball and dribbled it into the circle to knot up the game, 1-1, in the 40th minute, and then Cleat found Sakkas seven minutes later to give the Bears a 2-1 lead. Rodgers scored her 10th goal of the season on a ball from Mathison at 56:32.
Â
Quinnipiac battled back for a second goal in the 66th minute with Anna Walmsley scoring on a penalty corner play, but the Bobcats failed to procure the equalizer.
Â
Cal is 6-3 this season and set for four more road games before returning to Berkeley on Oct. 15.
