SEATTLE, Washington – California track & field claimed two individual championships as the women's squad claimed a top-five finish on day two of the MPSF Championship on Saturday at Dempsey Indoor.

Ashtyn Davis won the MPSF Championship in the 60m hurdles for the second consecutive year as he was able to match his personal best with a time of 7.71 seconds. Davis won the competition by .19 seconds;  the difference between Davis and second place was more than the distance between second and seventh. Davis' time was tied for fifth in the NCAA coming into the weekend as he bettered his mark from yesterday's prelims when he ran 7.75.

Tuomas Kaukolahti claimed his first MPSF Championship be dominating the competition by more than two feet. Kaukolahti leaped 53-5.50 inches to earn the title and place second on the school's all-time top 10 list. He notched the eighth-best mark in the NCAA this year and any of his three jumps would have won today's competition. Kaukolahti passed his final three attempts with the competition in-hand and a berth at the NCAA Championship secured.

The women's squad claimed a fourth place finish with 56 points over the two days of competition. On the men's side, Cal took eighth place with 46 points. However the men were in a tightly contested group and finished only three points out of sixth.

McKay Johnson notched a second place finish in the men's shot put as he finished second by ½ of an inch. Johnson had a throw of 64-4.00 which fell just behind Nick Ponzio's winning mark of 64-4.50. Peter Simon added four points to the Bears' total as he finished in fifth with a throw of 62-7.75.

Isabella Marten and Ashley Anderson combined to score 14 points for the Bears in the triple jump. Marten had a season-best mark as she took second after missing last year due to injury. Marten leaped 42.2.75 while Anderson notched a new personal best by taking third in 41-11.50.

Jordyn Colter cruised around the outside on the final turn of the women's 800m to take third in her heat and fourth overall as she crossed the line in 2:08.55. Colter earned five points for Cal. She wasn't the only Bear to finish in fourth as Bethan Knights grabbed the fourth spot in the women's 3000m race. Knights crossed the line in 9:07.01, the third-best time in school history. Brie Oakley was just behind her in fifth place with a time of 9:17.22. Oakley's mark is fourth on the school's all-time list.

The men's 4x400m relay team of Mahmoud Adams, Paramveer Chohan, Nikolaus Moore and Connor Meech took sixth place with a time of 3:15.83. Diab Davis and Moore each added two points as individuals with seventh place finishes. Davis did well in the 60m dash as he finished in 6.89 seconds while Moore notched a time of 1:53.12 in the 800m.

Over the two days of competition Cal student-athletes notched 11 all-time top 10 performances, 14 top-five finishes and 24 personal bests.

The Bears racked up three individual championships across the meet as Lauren Martinez won the pole vault title in yesterday's competition. Martinez cleared 13-9.25 to earn the title, but that mark would not have qualified her for the NCAA Championship. After the MPSF Championship was over, Martinez competed in the SPU Final Qualifier at Dempsey Indoor and posted a mark of 14-1.50. That mark is an indoor school record and the 11th-best mark in the country and puts Martinez in position to earn a spot at the NCAA Championship.

Over the next two weeks the Bears will open the outdoor season and close the indoor season. On Saturday, the Bears will host the Cal Outdoor Opener at Edwards Stadium. The following weekend the Bears will send a contingent of the top qualifiers to the NCAA Indoor Championship in College Station, Texas.
