EUGENE, Ore. - Playing in its first-ever Pac-12 contest, the California women's lacrosse team fell to Oregon, 12-7, Friday night from Pape Field on the Oregon campus. The Golden Bears fell to 4-3, 0-1, on the season.
Eliza Christman and
Caroline Corzel each scored twice to lead Cal's offensive attack.
Jenny Wilkens made eight saves for the 29th time in her career. Besides the two multi-goal scorers,
Meredith Haggerty scored for the first time this year, and
Marisa Kuberra and
Kirsten Swanson also tallied goals. Swanson also garnered a ground ball and caused a turnover.
The game started on the wrong foot for the Bears. Oregon scored four in a row to gain control early. The Bears strived to claw their way back in the game, cutting the lead down to two numerous times, but that was as close as they could get.
In addition to her goal, Haggerty notched a caused turnover, the 51st of her career, giving her sole possession of sixth place on Cal's all-time career list in that category. Haggerty also paced the Bears with four draws.
Cal won't have to wait long to get back on field. The Bears will face Colorado in Boulder on Sunday, March 11, at 11 a.m. PT.
