STANFORD, Calif. – An offensive outburst in the second inning by No. 2-ranked Stanford proved decisive as the Cal baseball team couldn't overcome an early deficit and the Bears dropped a 14-1 decision in game two of three at Sunken Diamond.

One day after claiming a series-opening win over the Cardinal, Cal (24-16, 10-10 Pac-12) left itself with work to do early in the evening. Stanford (32-6, 13-4) broke open the floodgates with a big second inning, scoring 10 runs on seven hits and forcing Cal to go to the bullpen.

Darren Baker accounted for Cal's lone run, delivering a two-out RBI single in the sixth inning. Cal tallied X hits as a team. Cal's relief corps delivered a bright spot on the evening as
Andrew Buckley,
Carson Olson and
Reuben Drogin each delivered a scoreless inning and
Kevin Flemer allowed just one unearned run in an inning of work.

The Bears and Cardinal return to Sunken Diamond on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. to settle the series. Right-hander
Aaron Shortridge will take the ball for Cal while left-hander Kris Bubic is the scheduled starter for Stanford. Cal returns to Evans Diamond on Tuesday to host BYU at 7:05 p.m.
