Bears Close Homestand With Visit From USF
BERKELEY -Â An eight-game homestand comes to a close Tuesday with a Bay Area showdown as the Cal baseball team hosts San Francisco at Evans Diamond. The Bears and Dons are scheduled for a 7:05 p.m. first pitch and the game will be broadcast live by Pac-12 Network with Ted Robinson and Scott Erickson on the call. Live stats will be available through CalBears.com and updates can be found by following Cal Baseball on Twitter (@CalBaseball).
The Bears enter the final game of their homestand looking to sustain the momentum gained through their stretch at Evans Diamond. A win over UC Davis, followed by series wins over both UCLA and Utah have left Cal with a 5-2 record over the past seven games. Most recently, a rare tripleheader day on Saturday yielded two wins in three tries against the Utes as junior
Aaron Shortridge capped a 20-inning day with a complete game effort in a 5-1 victory.
Cal's offense continues to rank among the best in the nation but the Bears' recent success has come in concert with some strong pitching as well. Senior
Matt Ladrech set the tone for the Utah series, delivering a quality start on a rainy Thursday night that gave Cal a chance to eventually score a 7-6 win on Saturday afternoon. Shortridge backed that up with a nine-strikeout performance on Saturday night, dropping his ERA to 2.40 in the process. And, closer
Tanner Dodson has established himself as one of the conference's best options at the back end of the bullpen as he enters the week with a 1-0 record, 2.78 ERA and six saves.
PROBABLE STARTERS
Cal: RHP
Rogelio Reyes (3-1, 6.20 ERA)

SCOUTING THE DONS
Last Meeting: A trip across the Bay Bridge resulted in a win for the Golden Bears as Cal scored a 5-4 victory on March 13 at Benedetti Diamond. Six Cal pitchers combined for the win on the mound while
Andrew Vaughn homered,
Tanner Dodson and
Tyrus Greene each had two hits and four different Bears drove in a run.
San Francisco's 2018 Record: 20-12, 10-2 WCC
- Since the Bears and Dons last met on March 13, head coach Nino Giarratano's squad has been on a major roll with wins in 11 of 16 games. A series win over Saint Mary's over the weekend pushed the Dons' lead in the WCC to three games.
- San Francisco has found its share of success on the mound this season as the Dons come to Berkeley with a 3.38 team ERA. Riley Ornido won WCC Pitcher of the Week honors after taking a no-hitter into the eighth inning at Saint Mary's. Right-hander Daniel Slominski is scheduled to start against the Bears and he enters with a 2-1 record and 3.07 ERA in nine appearances (three starts).
- Offensively, Jonathan Allen continues to lead the Dons from his spot atop the batting order as he enters Tuesday's game with a .362 average. Michael Perri has been a major contributor with a .344 average and team-high 27 RBIs while Riley Helland also enters with an impressive .331 average and 20 RBIs.
LAST TIME OUT
Cal Turns Tripleheader Day Into Series Win
- Wet weather forced a baseball rarity in Berkeley as Cal turned a 20-inning day on Saturday into two wins in three tries against Utah. The Bears completed the final two innings of a 7-6 win they started on Thursday, dropped a 12-10 decision in game two and then rebounded in the nightcap with Aaron Shortridge striking out nine and going the distance in a 5-1 Cal victory.
- Cal's strong offensive season continued against Utah with the Bears compiling a team batting average of .327 over the three-game series. Jonah Davis led the charge, going 5 for 9 with five runs scored while Jeffrey Mitchell Jr. went 4 for 10 with a home run and three RBis.
- On the mound, Shortridge continued his breakout junior season with Cal's first complete game of the year. Senior Matt Ladrech set the tone on Thursday with a quality start, working six innings abd allowing two earned runs to pick up his fourth win of the season.
